Master in Literacy Studies

Is the book an endangered species? Are text messages destroying the English language? What were medieval books like? How do children learn to read and write? Who was Shakespeare and does it matter? What does reading do to our minds?

The Master's programme in Literacy Studies offers a unique, cross-disciplinary approach to the subject of literacy: the study of books, reading, writing and the written text. The programme is run entirely in English, and we aim to provide high-quality instruction in an intimate but dynamic research environment with many international links.

If you have a degree with English as your main subject (or an educational background that may be seen as equally relevant for the course) and your interest is aroused by at least some of the above questions, our programme could be for you.

This website provides information about the contents, admissions, procedures and academic environment of the course. In case you have specific questions to which you cannot find an answer, please do not hesitate to contact us directly.
