- In 1989 The Centre for Reading Research (CRR) as part of the Stavanger Teacher Education College
- 1992 CRR became a part of the national network of special education centres (later known as Statped)
- 1995 CRR became a part of the Stavanger University College, later The University of Stavanger
- 2004 additional tasks as National Centre for reading Education and changed the name to National Centre for Reading Education and Research
The Centre has a staff of 60 persons with backgrounds from education, psychology, special education and linguistics. Some hold permanent positions and the rest are engaged in Ph.D. scholarships or long-term projects.
